Who is fighting for you?

Up the road a’piece members of Oregon’s National Guard have been deployed in a ruse by America’s vindictive Arsehole in Chief, Donald J. Trump. In a state of ever declining mental capacity (not that there was ever much to work with in the intellect department), Ole Obese Trumpy defied Oregon’s Governor Tina Kotek and demanded that Oregon’s troops take to the streets of Portland. Never one to shy away from spewing lies, Trumpy claimed the city is unlivable, beset by chaos and criminals. Of course, every literate American can see that the greatest threat to this country is Trumpy himself and his very ugly staff of blond bitches and entitled eunuchs.

For the record, Portland is a lovely town, particularly if you love books, music, art, and food. Should you get the opportunity to visit, do.

Trumpy is the only president in my lifetime who has purposefully set out to divide this nation, turning Republicans against Democrats, our military against Americans, Evangelicals against Evangelicals, Jews against Jews, Catholics against Catholics. Trump is without question a domestic terrorist and the single greatest threat to our Republic.

But I’ve been heartened to see a number of leaders step forward and push back against Trumpy’s embittered treachery. Here’s a few of the ones that I’ve been paying attention to. Feel free to provide your own examples of those in Congress who are fighting against the harm Trumpy pursues and fighting for the common good of all Americans:

  • Illinois Governor Pritizker: It appears that Donald Trump not only has dementia set in, but he’s copying tactics of Vladimir Putin. Sending troops into cities, thinking that that’s some sort of proving ground for war, or that indeed there’s some sort of internal war going on in the United States is just, frankly, inane and I’m concerned for his health … There is something genuinely wrong with this man, and the 25th Amendment ought to be invoked.”
  • Rep. Madeleine Dean: ” The president is unhinged. He is unwell.”
  • Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear: “Suggesting our American cities are training grounds for foreign conflict is about as UnAmerican as you can get … People didn’t vote for this cruelty … We have a president who tries to divide us over every single issue… We can’t lose faith that people can be better and that we, as a country, can be better.”
  • Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek: “I just received your notice to mobilize the Oregon National Guard outside of my control,” Kotek texted Trump. “I believe this is unlawful and unwarranted. You broke your promise to speak with me before taking further action against Portland.”
  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “I think there’s two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance  However, they are weaker than they look, and it is important that we remember that because what they rely on is the impression of power, the perception of inevitability in us giving up in advance. Donald Trump is at record levels of unpopularity in his tenure. The Republican house is at record levels of unpopularity. They are underwater across the board and they know it. And that is causing them to double down in public, but it is backfiring. That is why whether it’s a shutdown, whether it’s all of this, they want us to blink first and we have too much to save.”
  • Sen. Tammy Baldwin:  “One of the huge problems with this administration has been their lawlessness. We have seen any number of actions where the president has completely disregarded the law, disregarded the directives in our appropriations measures that have been signed into law. And so I think the accountability question is a huge question on everyone’s mind. But right now, again, costs are probably the No. 1 issue on everyone’s mind. And this president actually ran for office promising to bring down costs across the board, whether that be groceries, health care, housing, child care, and we have seen everything go up because of his policies. And so this is the fight. And right now, the centerpiece is health care because we know that we’re expecting dramatic increases in prices.”
  • Rep. Jasmine Crockett: “The Republican response to us allegedly holding the government hostage is to go out and hurt the very people that are serving our country and serving our constituents. This tells you who it is they are fighting for. They didn’t say they were going to hurt the billionaires. They said they were going to hurt the very people that make this government go…This is just another excuse for them to do the very inhumane things they want to do.”
