I run into people almost daily who tell me they are heartsick. Heartsick about this election. Heartsick about the failing health of a parent, a grandchild, a friend. Heartsick with loneliness. Heartsick with financial woes. Heartsick with impending pressures of work and worry. Heartsick over the tragic loss of a loved one.

No question. We are a broken people.

What do you do when you need to restore yourself?

I get a massage or go for a drive along the river, or call a friend whom I know will cheer me.

And often, I just pick up a good book to read.

It was the heartsick among us that Ann Voskamp had in mind when she wrote her THE BROKEN WAY: The Daring Way to an Abundant Life.

I hope you read Ann’s blog. I hope you have read her previous work: ONE THOUSAND GIFTS.

Sometimes, when I am really wondering whether I should keep using my voice to speak out, I will get the most random note of encouragement from Ann, telling me to hang tight, to be brave, to not give up. I don’t know how she knows when I need to hear those words (other than the Holy Spirit), but Ann always knows, and always reaches out. Her words make me braver than I really am. Her words make me stronger than I really am. Her words make me hope when I am despairing.

I hope they do the same for you. Whether you win this drawing or not, you should read THE BROKEN WAY.

All you have to do to enter is leave me a note below, share on your Social Media accounts.

May we all find the courage to be our broken selves living daringly.

Karin I have read a lot of books you have recommended. I like books that are based on real life. I'm so attached to your book After their flag has been folded and Silence of Mockingbirds. I'm reading J D Vance book a Hillbilly Elagy right now.

This sounds like it is just what I need right now. It is added to my list. I've been looking for something meaningful to read, something that I can hold on to while I'm struggling to get mood shifts back under control. I know I can count on anything you recommend to do just that.

Oh my, oh my, how I need to read a book by Ann Voskamp about how to find my way back to peace, and robust faith and hope again on a rocky path of heartsickness. And please, Karen, please keep speaking out! We need your voice because much of the time we don't have your courage.
