Gold Star Families: Making a President Look More Presidential

There are these documents most every Gold Star family has stashed somewhere. The signatures on those documents change from era to era, but the White House seal, it stays the same. The ones I have are over 50 years old now. They belonged to my mother but she passed them on to me – the document keeper of the family.

There’s the Regret-to-Inform telegram confirming that Staff Sgt. David P. Spears was KIA on July 24, 1966.

This election season has a lot of us running around putting out fires. Between Hillary Clinton’s propensity for dodging the truth and Donald Trump’s inability to bridle his tongue, and the media’s lack of professionalism, is it any wonder all of us are having a difficult time fettering out truth from fiction?

In the past 24 hours, I have personally dealt with at least five or six fires created by people clicking and sharing outright lies, or if you prefer, half-truths, which if you ask your mom is the same thing as a lie. read more

I cannot explain Elizabeth Hasselbeck or her analogy comparing NFL’s domestic violence scandals with the Obama administration’s handling of the September 11, 2012 terror attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya. All I can say is God bless her little pea-picking heart.

But child abuse, now that’s something I can speak to. Not as someone who suffered from it – I haven’t. But as someone who has spent a great deal of time researching child abuse (see Karly Sheehan: True crime story behind Karly’s Law), I have some insights about this whole Adrian Peterson child abuse situation. Peterson, Minnesota Vikings running back, was indicted for child abuse after taking a switch to his 4-year-old child’s bare buttocks. read more
