There will be writing workshops, school outreach, a literary marketplace, food trucks and a children’s area. The festival is free and open to the public.
The festival’s mission is to expose the under-served literary arts to Augusta citizens of all walks of life and ages, and encourage and advance the reputation of literary arts in our area. The festival takes its name from Berry Fleming, an Augusta author, who came to prominence in the 30s and 40s when he wrote a number of bestselling novels, including Colonel Effingham’s Raid, which was made into a major motion picture. Each year it will honor a literary luminary from Augusta’s past. This year’s honoree will be Louise Shivers, author of Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail.
