I love your blogs, BUT I strongly object to the format of your web-site. Of course, I am too old and will soon pass from the scene leaving all of this nonsense behind me.
In the meantime, thank you for your comments about our military and our attitudes about the dead. I often weep for the dead who were left behind to rot in North Korea - while our politicians played fast and loose with their obligations to those who have bled and died for their privileges and ours.
One war has ended. Let us all pray that the one in process soon ends as well. Sadly, neither of these excuses for our diplomatic failures will be condemned.

Your article about "The Help", which I read in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, was so moving. Thank you for having the courage to tell your story. I called you once to see if you were related to Beverly Zacharias, who wrote for the LE back in the '70's. She had a daughter named Karen. Glad to see you doing so well. You truly have a gift of writing. Thanks for sharing it.

Read you article today. My sisters and I made a trip to Panama City, FL for some "Sister Hood" get away. Three of us read The Help and reminisced about our childhood. Like you, we had help. Our mother, single, working in a mill in Columbus, needed help. Like you, we were loved and cared for our beloved Minni-Pearl. The segregation of schools happened during my fifth grade year. We children learned so much about working together that year. I have lots of black friends today that I don't look at as a different color. Just friends. Thanks for your article. We too cried and yes, it is a story but a story that gives a punch to all that see it.

Good for you on standing up to everyone on the language in the book "go the f to sleep". It sickning that we even have to discuss it, kids are a gift and to cross this kind of sick humor with children no matter who it's for - is wrong. I get awakened every night by my 3 year old - and you know what - she just wants security and comfort - yes I wish she would go to sleep and she usually does when she knows her daddy is right there for her. I will miss that someday. Keep up the good work!

Karen, please don't listen to all the trashy comments people are posting about your oped on CNN regarding "that book' - I agree with your opinion and think society has NUMBED itself through use of humor to turn a blind eye to children who face this kind of content in life EVERY night before bed... as part of their bedtime ritual. Children will learn to cry themselves to sleep QUIETLY if they are beaten enough. It is so sad. I'm totally disgusted with just how many people are angry with you and your opinion. There is no sensitivity- so you buy the book, to whom are you going to read it to? Total waste.

Thank you for writing your article, 'Go The F*** To Sleep' Not Funny,' I agree completely with the content: its popularity is a strong indicator of the new cultural allowance of crossing-the-line in terms of language and the open exposure of frustration. I was instantly offended by the book, in spite of understanding it as a joke, because I'm fortunate to recognize that even the frustrating moments as a parent are a blessing, part of the larger experience. I find the thing to be petty, weak and simply juvenile. Parents should be strong and resilient, above such rubbish. I really hope that this book's popularity is not indicative of the parenting style of today.
