Your article about "The Help", which I read in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, was so moving. Thank you for having the courage to tell your story. I called you once to see if you were related to Beverly Zacharias, who wrote for the LE back in the '70's. She had a daughter named Karen. Glad to see you doing so well. You truly have a gift of writing. Thanks for sharing it.

Read you article today. My sisters and I made a trip to Panama City, FL for some "Sister Hood" get away. Three of us read The Help and reminisced about our childhood. Like you, we had help. Our mother, single, working in a mill in Columbus, needed help. Like you, we were loved and cared for our beloved Minni-Pearl. The segregation of schools happened during my fifth grade year. We children learned so much about working together that year. I have lots of black friends today that I don't look at as a different color. Just friends. Thanks for your article. We too cried and yes, it is a story but a story that gives a punch to all that see it.

Karen, please don't listen to all the trashy comments people are posting about your oped on CNN regarding "that book' - I agree with your opinion and think society has NUMBED itself through use of humor to turn a blind eye to children who face this kind of content in life EVERY night before bed... as part of their bedtime ritual. Children will learn to cry themselves to sleep QUIETLY if they are beaten enough. It is so sad. I'm totally disgusted with just how many people are angry with you and your opinion. There is no sensitivity- so you buy the book, to whom are you going to read it to? Total waste.
